LATEST UPDATES FROM LONDON
The crème de la crème of the garden world will be wowing visitors at
the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Leading designers such as Tom
Stuart-Smith, Tom Hoblyn, James Wong and Andy Sturgeon will all be
designing show gardens this year. It's shaping up to be another top
year with cutting edge design ideas, coupled with contemporary
planting schemes. There's sure to be something to delight everyone.
The largest show garden… ever
The Eden Project garden, Places of Change, will be the largest show
garden ever built at Chelsea. The Eden Project's Paul Stone is
coordinating a team of experienced and novice garden designers on
the project. These include amateur designers from the UK’s homeless
centres.
A gravel garden inspired from all corners of the world
Andy Sturgeon is designing a contemporary gravel garden for the
Daily Telegraph this year. He takes his inspiration from the Maquis
shrubland of the Mediterranean, the Chaparral of California and
Mexico, the Matorral of central Chile and Fynbos from the Southern
Cape.
A vision of romance and elegance for Laurent-Perrier
Tom Stuart-Smith, who has won nine Gold medals and three best in
shows, will create a visionary garden of romance and elegance for
Laurent-Perrier, that offers a private, intimate space for
entertainment or quiet reflection. The centrepiece of this modern
garden will be a bronze pavillion designed by award winning
architect Jamie Fobert.
2009 People's Choice award-winner returns
Robert Myers, who has won four Gold medals and the RHS People’s
Choice 2009 award, returns for a sixth time, designing a garden for
Cancer Research UK. Robert has designed an ornamental urban roof
garden which celebrates the increased understanding of the causes,
diagnosis and treatment of cancer, offering a beacon of hope.
The Garden Museum will open a new exhibition — Christopher Lloyd: A
Life at Great Dixter.
The exhibition will present the life and work of Christopher Lloyd,
bringing together personal objects from Great Dixter, recollections
and stories from friends and colleagues, examples of his writing and
pictures of his garden. It will be the first time that this
selection of Christopher Lloyd's possessions, and those of his
family, have been on public display, including his gardening
galloshes and his Glyndebourne shoes, designs by architect Sir Edwin
Lutyens and photographs from the family's private darkroom.

‘I LOVED the tour. I really enjoyed all of the gardens and Chelsea
has been a dream for many many years. Your tips about seeing Chelsea
were all bang on, and thank goodness for them! The phrase I use to
describe my mood during the entire tour is "pure bliss". Each and
every day was fabulous! Thanks so much for all your hard work
organizing this tour, it was a wonderful life enhancing time for me.
